Steve’s Head Shed – A 2016 Featured Exhibitor
Starting in 1970, Steve Blackwell built the powerplants for drivers such as David Pearson, Bobby Allison, Bobby Isaac, Darrell Waltrip, Buddy Baker, Neil Bonnett, Cale Yarborough, Dale Jarrett and Dale Earnhardt. Along the way his engines helped these drivers win 78 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, a Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year title and two Sprint Cup Series championships.

In July 1983, after thirteen years in Cup racing, Steve founded Steve’s Head Shed for the purpose of providing the very best in cylinder heads, intake manifolds and complete engines to all types of racers.

Steve continued to work for a Sprint Cup team until 1991, when he made the decision to devote all of his time and energy to the ever growing business of Steve’s Head Shed. Since opening in 1983, Steve’s knowledge, skill and attention to detail has resulted in over 1100 feature wins and over 60 track championships on the short tracks of the Southeast.
Steve is committed to giving racers the very best equipment money can buy along with the kind of commitment, experience and knowledge that money cannot buy. Whether it’s engine components, carburetor spacers or a complete engine, Steve’s Head Shed can help to improve your engine program at a cost less expensive than most racers think.

Each complete engine from Steve Blackwell is built one at a time and is carefully modified and assembled with the customer’s specific application in mind. This standard applies to every engine, regardless of whether it is a stock-style class or a full-out, unlimited race engine. While Steve’s Head Shed specializes in four-cylinder engines such as the 2000 and 2300 cc Ford and the 1800cc Toyota, they can also handle small-block Chevys up to 434 cubic inches of displacement, including popular Ford and GM crate engines.

When Steve’s Head Shed builds an engine they leave nothing to chance. Every check, test and machining operation that can be done to ensure the reliability of the short block assembly is performed. Steve’s bulletproof short block, when coupled with his competition-proven cylinder heads and intake manifolds, is a winning combination that is ready to drop into any car and race competitively.

Steves_Ford2300cchead-ported Service after the sale is a hallmark of Steve’s Head Shed. His goal is to help racers get the most out of their engines no matter the application. Aside from customer service, for those wanting to go deeper into the science of a racing engine, Steve has publications available to help racers realize maximum performance and welcomes both emails and phone calls from those needing information, advice and tuning tips.
